Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are many components which make up a lift truck. The lift truck's main parts comprise the truck frame, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Additionally, a lift truck consists of various types of attachments. All the parts that make up a lift truck are of equal importance as they work together to make the operation of the machinery possible. The next paragraphs describe a few of the lift truck parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the machine operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or hurt the operator. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move up and down. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which keeps a load from falling backwards when the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a variety of attachments could be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. Moreover, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, pole handlers, roll clamps and so on. These different attachments are useful for transporting various kinds of loads.
