History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The original company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. During the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years.
